The Fable: Beloved Manga turned Anime

The much-anticipated anime adaptation of the hit manga series, “The Fable,” is finally in the works. The news broke on the official anime site, which can be visited here: TV Anime Official Site. Esteemed Tezuka Productions, known for their incredible work on “The Quintessential Quintuplets” and “The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses,” has been entrusted with the project.

“The Fable,” crafted by Minami Katsuhisa, enjoyed a successful run on “Young Magazine.” It was such a sensation that it inspired live-action movies in 2019 and 2021, headlined by the talented Okada Junichi. The films raked in over 3.1 billion yen at the box office, attesting to the story’s immense popularity. Despite the conclusion of its second part, “The Fable: The Second Contact,” in July 2023, the story of “The Fable” isn’t over. Now, fans can look forward to its upcoming animated incarnation.

“The Fable” tells the story of an invincible hitman known as “Fable,” trained since childhood to kill any opponent within six seconds. However, his life takes a radical turn when he’s ordered to live a year without killing. Under the alias Sato Akira, he embarks on an entirely new lifestyle that proves to be anything but ordinary. His peaceful days are constantly threatened by ominous undercurrents. Will he successfully carry out this toughest mission?

This action-comedy anime will depict Fable’s intriguing, sometimes ridiculous, and slightly quirky hiatus from his assassin career over a year. Our teaser visual shows him gripping his beloved Nighthawk, his eyes filled with a deadly intent that could finish anyone on the receiving end. Intriguingly, he’s naked – an intriguing and powerful visual that perfectly encapsulates his resolution to “professionally kill no one” for a year.

At the helm of this exciting anime adaptation is Ryosuke Takahashi, who has a diverse portfolio including “Armored Trooper VOTOMS,” “Fang of the Sun Dougram,” and “Phoenix.” Collaborating with Tezuka Productions, he aims to create an animation filled to the brim with the allure of “The Fable,” ranging from the unconventional daily life of “Fable” as a professional, to gripping action scenes.

Both Minami Katsuhisa and Takahashi Ryosuke have shared their excitement and anticipation for the anime. Katsuhisa confessed that during the initial concept phase of “The Fable,” he had envisioned both a live-action film and an anime adaptation. Now, with one more dream achieved, he awaits the final product with as much excitement as the fans.

For those curious about the movie adaptations of “The Fable,” two films have been released: “The Fable” (2019) and “The Fable: A Contract Killer Who Doesn’t Kill” (2021). Both films masterfully blend stunning action, offbeat humor, and moving human drama into a delightful entertainment package, receiving critical acclaim and success at the box office.
